Jonny Bairstow Biography

Jonny Bairstow, an English cricketer. He is a right-hand batter and wicketkeeper. Bairstow is a member of the ‘Yorkshire County Cricket Club’. He was a keen cricketer from childhood.

He was also awarded the ‘Cricketer Of The Year’ award during his school years. He began his career playing for the Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Later, he was selected to play for the English ODI side. Bairstow performed admirably in his first match against India and was awarded the Man of the Match award.

He also won the title of the English ODI team’s ‘Man Of The Match’. Bairstow set a new record in 2016 for wicketkeepers who have claimed 70 dismissals in one calendar year. He set a new record in 2016 for the most Test runs by a wicketkeeper in a single calendar year.

He is the first English cricketer ever to reach 100 runs in three consecutive international one-day matches. He is a member of the ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad’ team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It was his first century Test. England’s first innings score was 629. However, England failed to score in the second innings. Bairstow’s unbeaten 30-run run helped his team draw. He scored 45 in the first innings for the third Test.
  • He scored 140 runs and caught nine wickets in the 2016 series against Sri Lanka. He got the “Man of the Match”. He scored 48 runs in the second match. He scored 167 in his first innings and 32 in his second. He has jointly adjudged the player of the series with Kaushal Silva.
  • Bairstow scored an impressive 58 runs in the second match of the 2016 Test series against Pakistan. He scored 83 runs in the second innings of the third Test.
  • Bairstow was a part of the 2016 Test series against India. He scored 46 runs in England’s first innings.

  • Jonny Bairstow set a world record for the most wicketkeepers in a calendar year with 70 dismissals. He also scored 1470 runs in Test matches and set a world record for the most Test matches played by a wicketkeeper in a single calendar year. He was also the only English wicketkeeper to record nine dismissals in Test matches. The first was against South Africa and the second against Sri Lanka.
  • Jonny Bairstow was unbeaten against the West Indies in 2017. It was his maiden century in ODI. He scored 141 runs against West Indies in September 2017. This was the most run by an English batsman against West Indies.
  • Bairstow was purchased by ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad’ for the 2019 Indian Premier League. He will also be playing in England’s 2019 ‘Cricket World Cup’.
