Who is Lionel Messi?

Messi, often known as “Leo,” is an Argentine soccer striker who plays for FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team. He was born in Buenos Aires and resides in Barcelona, Spain. After FC Barcelona paid for his medical treatment, Messi moved to Spain at the age of 13.

Messi

He was a legend in the game and helped his team win over two dozen tournaments and league titles. He set a record in 2012 for most goals in a single calendar year. In 2019, he was awarded Europe’s Ballon d’Or.

Early life

On June 24, 1987, Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina. Messi was a young boy who accompanied his older brothers to soccer games. He didn’t feel intimidated by the larger boys. He was 8 years old when he was invited to join Newell’s Old Boys’ youth program, a Rosario-based team.

Messi, who was smaller than the average child his age, was diagnosed with a hormone deficiency. Messi’s parents Jorge and Cecilia decided to give their son a series of nightly growth hormone injections. However, it quickly became impossible to afford several hundred dollars per month.

To take advantage of the opportunity to train at FC Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia, and have his medical bills paid for by the team, Messi’s family packed up and relocated from the Atlantic to Spain at the age of 13 to start a new life. As much as Messi missed his family and friends back in Argentina, he moved fast through the levels of the junior system.

A final connection has been made between Messi and another famous Argentine footballer, Diego Maradona because of Messi’s diminutive stature (5 feet 7 inches) and his pace and aggressive attacking style.
