Neymar da Silva Sr., also known as Neymar Jr., was born in Mogi das Cruzes (Brazil) on February 5, 1992. His father, Neymar Sr., a former footballer, became aware of his son’s talent and took over as his advisor. In 2003, the family moved to Sao Vicente where Neymar started playing for Portuguesa Santista’s youth team.
Later in the same year, they moved to Santos where Neymar joined Santos FC. He trained at the Santos youth academy. At 14 years of age, Neymar went to Spain with the Real Madrid youth team. There, stars such as Zinedine Zidane and Robinho were playing for Real Madrid.
Neymar made his professional debut on March 7, 2009, at the age of 17 years. He was in the final 30 minutes of Santos’ match against Oeste. He scored 14 goals in 48 games during his rookie season. His stellar performance continued with 42 goals in 60 matches during his second season, 2010.
