Rashid Khan Biography

Rashid Khan, an Afghan cricketer, plays for the Afghan national team and the IPL team ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad.’ Rashid was raised in Nangarhar (Afghanistan) into a large family. Rashid was one of 11 children in his extended family.

As Afghanistan was at war, he grew up in difficult circumstances. Rashid Khan’s family fled to Pakistan, where Rashid Khan began playing cricket for the very first time. Rashid’s family returned home to Afghanistan after the crisis in Afghanistan was under control.

Rashid continued his education in Afghanistan. Rashid is currently an all-rounder. In 2008, he made his international Test debut in the match against India. This was Afghanistan’s first-ever Test match. Rashid did an outstanding job in the game.

Rashid, aged 19, became the youngest bowler in the ‘International Cricket Council (ICC) one day international (ODI). Rashid was also ranked number one in the ‘ICC’s all-rounder rankings after his outstanding performance at the 2018 Asia Cup.

He was the youngest ever international cricketer to captained Afghanistan in the 2018 World Cup Qualifier tournament. In 2017, he was signed by the ‘IPL team, ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has also played for Afghan teams like ‘Kabul Zwanan.

Rashid Khan Arman was born in Nangarhar (Afghanistan) on September 20, 1998, to a large family. He was the eldest of ten children.

He was only 16 years old when the 9/11 attacks occurred. This led to the start of a war against Afghanistan. Rashid’s family fled Afghanistan to escape the Afghan war. Rashid spent most of his childhood there.

Rashid returned home with his family a few years later when Afghanistan’s situation had improved. He resumed his education. As a student, he was a star performer.. He was interested in becoming a doctor, but cricket was also on the horizon.

The Taliban had taken Afghanistan under its wing, and it was a developing country for sports. Even Rashid’s parents didn’t want him to be a cricketer for a living. Despite these obstacles, cricket flourished in Afghanistan, and Rashid was elected to be its flag-bearer.

Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s all-rounder, greatly inspired Rashid. He also modeled his bowling style after him. Rashid began playing professional cricket when he was in his twenties.

Rashid began his career in cricket in Afghanistan, where the game was still in its infancy. In 2015, he was allowed to join the national team for the first time. On October 18, 2015, he made his ODI debut in opposition to Zimbabwe. He also made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Zimbabwe a week later.

When it came to international cricket, Afghanistan was most commonly known as an associate country. This means that it was in the category of weaker players. Therefore, most international matches he played were against lower-ranked teams like Zimbabwe and Ireland.

Rashid was a talented all-rounder but was primarily a bowler. In March 2017, he scored his first 5-wicket win against Ireland, giving away just three runs. This was the most impressive performance by an Afghan player in a T20I match. This was also the fourth-best performance by any T20I bowler. He was also the only player to win five wickets in T20I matches in 2 overs.

Rashid also took six wickets during an ODI match on the same tour. At that point, Afghanistan was beginning to be recognized as a significant team.

In June 2017, the Afghan side played the West Indies team, which is a stronger team. Rashid was the first to take seven wickets and score 18 runs in an ODI match. He was the first player from an associate nation to take seven wickets in an ODI. Surprisingly, Afghanistan won that match, and Rashid was named Man of the Match.

Recognizing this young talent, ICC honored Rashid with the ‘Associate cricketer of the Year’ award in 2018. Rashid was also named captain of Afghanistan’s team in the 2018 World Cup Qualifier tournament. Rashid was also on the ‘ICC’ list of qualifiers players to watch out for.

 Rashid made his Test debut against India in their first match. His performance in that match was, however, pathetic.

Rashid participated in a Test match against Ireland in February 2019. In the second innings, he grabbed five wickets. This was the first Afghan player to take 5-wickets in an international Test match.

Rashid has played 57 ODI games and scored 782 runs with an average of 23.69 runs. He has already scored four half-centuries, but he is still to reach his first century. He has taken 123 wickets with a bowling average of 15.00 and four 5-wicket hauls.

He has participated in 38 T20I matches, scoring 123 runs and a low average of 13.66. In the T20I format, he hasn’t scored more than a half-century. His bowling performance is much better. With a bowling average of 11.56, he has taken 75 wickets in T20I.

Local and international clubs also pursued Rashid. He was a member of the Bangladesh Cricket League’s ‘Comilla Victorians’ team in 2016.

He is also associated with the Caribbean Premier League team ‘Guyana Amazon Warriors,’ the IPL team ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad,’ and the Australian Big Bash League team — ‘Adelaide Strikers.

He plays locally for the ‘Kabul Zwanan’ of the Afghanistan Premier League.

Rashid Khan Record & Achievements

Rashid Khan was ranked number one in the ‘ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers. He was 19 years old, making him the youngest top-ranked bowler. He was also at the top of the ICC Player Rankings for T20I bowlers that month.

He won the ‘ICC all-rounder rankings a few months later.

He was the youngest ever international player to captained an Afghan team in the “World Cup Qualifier” tournament in March 2018.
