Sadio Mane was conceived in Sedhiou (Senegal) on April 10, 1992. He was raised in Bambali, a small village in Southern Senegal. Mane was raised by his uncle, as his parents were impoverished and had too many children to care for.

His parents couldn’t afford to send him to school, so he grew up playing street soccer. He played football on the streets of his small village every morning as he woke up and in the evenings when it was dark.

His passion for football was ignited when he saw the Senegal National Team compete in the World Cup. They reached the quarter-finals and beat France on the group stage. He took football seriously after this. His parents initially opposed it. They had other plans for their son, which did not include football. But Mane was determined to pursue it. They decided to support their son by selling their farm produce to raise funds to send Mane to Generation Foot, a football academy located in Dakar.

Metz (2011-2012)

Mane was discovered by some French scouts not long after. He moved from Generation Foot to France to play for Metz, Ligue 2. He played 19 games for Metz, scoring one goal

Red Bull Salzburg (2012-2014).

Following his performance at Metz, Mane was transferred to Red Bull Salzburg for the Bundesliga of Austria. This was a reported EUR4million transfer, the third-largest Metz made.
